Staying Rooted through Music with Tamara Menon

Tamara has spent her life challenging the colonial view of music making, performance, and education. Tamara’s pedagogy revolves around the avant garde, where there is no right or wrong when it comes to music. Tamara came to the Region of Waterloo as an international student strongly influenced by her Indian roots and her fierce spirit for social advocacy. Listen in as we talk about her journey creating the Yuva Arts Project, bringing youth to Canada from the “red light district” of Mumbai for a 2-week arts exchange. The experience was transformative for the participants but also for Tamara herself. We wrap up the show and this series with practical ways that people can support the arts locally.
